The italian art in the fabric

The use of fabrics, as witnessed by numerous rock paintings, has been known since prehistoric time being it a tangible witness of needs and taste of man. In the neolithic age, with the introduction of the first rudimentary looms, fabrics replaced the leather in clothing.

At the beginning of the sixteenth century, where luxury and splendor overlook, for the first time the furnishing fabrics depicting floral and heraldic figures were clearly different from those for clothing, decorated with minute motifs.

From north to south, Italy has always been a land reach of great spinners and weavers.
To flax and wool were added yarns like cotton introduced by Carlo Magno to the return of the military campaigns in India, and silk from the orient brought to Venice by Marco Polo.
